What is the difference between Identity Management and Access Management?

7 views 0

Although they’re often mentioned together, Identity Management and Access Management serve different purposes within an Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution.

Identity Management focuses on creating, maintaining, and managing digital identities throughout the user lifecycle. This includes onboarding new employees, assigning roles, updating user information, and deactivating accounts when users leave the organization.

Access Management, on the other hand, determines what authenticated users are allowed to access. It verifies permissions, enforces security policies, and ensures users can only access the applications and resources they need.

Together, these capabilities help organizations automate identity administration, reduce excessive permissions, and strengthen security across cloud and on-premises environments.
