What happens to my existing customer accounts when I upgrade from legacy to new Shopify customer accounts?

Your customers keep their accounts. When you move from Legacy Customer Accounts to New Customer Accounts, existing customer data transfers into the new system, profiles stay linked to your store and customers do not lose their account information.

You can keep the login methods they already know. Extend new Customer Accounts with the miniOrange Shopify B2B Customer Login solution so you can:

  • Enable email-password login alongside OTP authentication
  • Add Single Sign-On (SSO) for business customers
  • Provide phone OTP login option
  • Provide separate logins for B2C and B2B user types

That way B2B and B2C shoppers can stay on familiar flows after migration, not only Shopify’s default sign-in path.

What will customers notice about sign-in?

Shopify’s default new Customer Accounts experience is often passwordless: a one-time code sent to email, instead of the legacy stored password screen. That is the built-in hosted flow, optional for you once you add email-password, SSO, or other methods through a solution like miniOrange.
