Auto-Activation Rules & Configuration

Q1. What does Auto-activate Users do?

Auto-activate Users automatically adds a user to a selected Jira group when they trigger an action (such as creating or updating a request), provided the action matches one of your configured rules.

Q2. What triggers an auto-activation?

An auto-activation is triggered when a Jira automation (or supported integration) sends a request to the app’s webhook URL. This usually happens when a request is created or updated in a configured service project, and the data matches an active rule.

Q3. How does a rule determine the project?

Each rule is linked to a specific project. When the app receives a webhook, it checks the project in the request and applies only the rules that match that project and are currently enabled.

Q4. What are “Assign by domain” and “Assign by existing group”?

These are conditions used to control when a user is added to a group:

  • Assign by domain: The user’s email domain (e.g., @company.com) must match the one defined in the rule.
  • Assign by existing group: The user must already be a member of a specified group.

A user is added to the target group only if the configured condition(s) are met.

Q5. Where can I see execution details?

The audit logs show whether each rule was successfully applied, skipped because conditions were not met, or failed. Use these logs for troubleshooting and validation.
