Unified Endpoint Management

To enroll iPhones and iPads in MDM through Apple Business Manager (ABM), the recommended approach is Automated Device Enrollment (ADE).

Prerequisites

1. An active Apple Business Manager account.
2. A supported MDM solution (such as Miniorange MDM).
3. Apple devices purchased through Apple, an authorized reseller, or a carrier linked to your ABM account; alternatively, devices can be added later using Apple Configurator.

Step 1: Connect Apple Business Manager to Your MDM

In ABM:

1. Sign in as an Administrator.
2. Go to Devices → Device Management Settings (or equivalent menu).
3. Create a new MDM server entry.
4. Download the public key from the miniOrange MDM platform.
5. Upload the public key to ABM.
6. Download the server token from ABM and upload it to miniOrange MDM.

Step 2: Add Devices to Apple Business Manager

There are two common methods:

Automatic assignment

• Purchase devices from Apple or an authorized reseller linked to your ABM account.
• Devices automatically appear in ABM inventory.

Manual addition

• Use Apple Configurator on a Mac or iPhone to add existing devices that were not originally purchased through ABM.

Step 3: Assign Devices to the MDM Server

In ABM:

1. Open Devices.
2. Search for the serial numbers or order numbers.
3. Select the devices.
4. Choose Assign to Server.
5. Select your miniOrange MDM server.

Step 4: Sync Devices into the MDM Platform

In your MDM console:

1. Sync with Apple Business Manager.
2. Confirm the assigned devices appear in the enrollment list.
3. Create an Automated Device Enrollment profile.

Step 5: Enroll the Device

For a new or factory-reset iPhone/iPad:

1. Power on the device.
2. Connect to Wi-Fi or cellular data.
3. Complete the initial setup.
4. The device contacts Apple activation servers.
5. Apple detects the ABM assignment and displays a Remote Management screen.
6. The device automatically enrolls into your MDM and receives policies, apps, and configurations.
